Scanning on the HP ScanJet 5590 is not limited to single- and multiple-sheet documents on either the flatbed glass or through the auto-document feeder. Scans can also be made from 35mm film slides, or even film negatives. To scan slides, a separate accessory, known as the transparent materials adaptor, or TMA, is used to load slides for placement on the flatbed glass surface for scanning.
