Kel Tec Ksg Serial Number Location
Kel-Tec has been made aware that the KSG is going to be one of the Pump-action shotguns included in the upcoming Congressional Assault. Considering that a year after they were released my first ksg was serial 13xx and my friend's one 2 mos later was 18xx I would say they are not making these in any. The KSG™ is chambered for 12-gauge 3” shells and may safely fire both lead and steel shot. Shells 2-3/4”. The KSG™ features a cross-bolt safety located behind the trigger on the grip assembly. When the safety is. 2) Include a written copy of the model and serial number of the firearm and a description of the difficulty.
I have been following the KSG for about 2 years now. I almost lost all faith and swore it off, as the internet seemed to have more negative things to say than good. There are several threads in this site where users reported they shot it once and were then obliged to sell it in disappointment. The more predominant theme on the internet seems to be people voicing bad experience verses good. If it were not Nutnfancy & hickok45 YouTube videos I never would have taken the plunge and picked up a KSG.
I made my first trip to the range today with my new KSG(Titanium Edition $1,127.00) I added a Tapco short VFG($17 Shipped from EE) and a Kobra red dot($250 from EE) I had laying around. The Kobra ends up being perfect as some additional elevation of optics is needed on the KSG.

This is needed to make up for the distance between your eye and cheek weld. I took 75 rounds with me, mostly Sellier and Bellot 2-3/4 00 buck and one box of Remington sluggers. Loading: Loading was easy but I will admit a little awkward as i have never loaded a firearm in this manor. Which was understandable this is a very unique firearm. It did appear to me that with some practice one maybe able to load a shell without breaking cheek weld. I did snag my finger a few times in the tube as I pushed the shells up but nothing major.
I was only able to fit 6 of 2 3/4 shells into each tube not 7. Operating: I had zero issues and it was enjoyable to shoot. It pointed very naturally. Even while fully loaded with shells, it felt balanced. Switching tubes without breaking cheek weld was easy.
I also noticed a distinct clack noise as a shell was picked up and chambered. I started to use this to tell me if I just racked on a empty tube.
Ejected shells hitting my wrist was not an issue. I alternated wearing gloves and bare-hands without any discomfort. The ejected shells seem to fall erratically, most dropped nicely at my feet, one hit my stomach(No beer gut) and a few shot down range about 5 yards. The trigger was very nice and crisp.
There was not excessive dead space or issues considering this is a bullpup. The fire arm did not heat up at all. In fact I shocked at how cool it remained.
When I worked the action, I was sure to rack it hard! The Tapco VFG was very nice and aided in operation. I did notice on fast repetitive fire that the rubber stopper in the bottom of the VFG would start to come out. My final target @ just over 15 yards - about 3x00 and two slugs (one to the head the other tore the 00 pattern out just below the bullseye) Reliability: The KSG gave me no indicators which would make me question it reliability. A few more range trips like this one and it will take the place of my Mossberg next to my bed! Whats Next: I want to get some flip up backup sights. However the price tag greater than $100 seems a lot for a spring loaded peep hole and a medal post.
I am not even sure if AR type flip ups would be the best for a shot gun. What do you all think?
Until them I will be stalking EE for a used set. People who own this thing definitely have to shoot it to find out if they have a diamond in the rough, or a turd. I also waited since it's debut about 2 yrs ago, and finally had my chance at it for $775 shipped, one week ago. Took it to the range with a box of 100rnd Winchester universal pack from Wmart to see how it would function on cheap ammo (only able to shoot about 32 rounds before calling it quits, details below). These shells would hang up about half the time, ejecting spent shells required forcefully yanking the slide a few times.and even loading a fresh round required forceful blipping the slide a few times to finally get it going. Again, these hangups only occurred half the time, not every round. Unfortunately, at 28 rounds the trigger stuck in the rearward position after firing and the only way it would go forward to reset is racking the slide forward then manually pulling the trigger forward until the click reset.
At the same time, the safety switch seem to have broken as well, freely sliding back and forth with no effort. I tested another 4 rounds to see if it was just a fluke or hiccup, but all 4 times resulted in same crap.
So, 28 rounds was all it took to have something broke on my KSG. A bit disappointed, but I hope their service and repair is better.they did mention the will repair or replace until it becomes 'dependable'. I've emailed Keltec couple days ago and was told I would get a shipping label to mail the KSG back to them by tonight.still have not seen the label.
I've just resent another email a few minutes ago reminding them of the label. We will see where it goes from here. View Quote Yes, you can still find some in this range.got mine from a shop in KY (C&C Firearms, if anyone interested in stalking for a KSG as they sell out fast once they come in) that gets some in every month and they post new guns that come in on their facebook. The KSGs go for $750, and $25 shipping.
The colored ones, if they get some in go for $799. These are all new, straight fresh from Keltec's sweat shop. Mine has serial number X7Wxx, which puts it around 26,8xx KSG mark.very fresh and current.
I got the ship label and just got it shipped back to Keltec today so they can hopefully fix it to be a dependable tool. Eta: there's not really a gen1 or gen2. Some parts were revised and updated along the way to fix weak/poor design, but Keltec did not declare any official specificatons to draw a line to define what a generation is. But going along with you, they even supposedly have a 'gen3' currently based on some people's experience and I don't know what modification made it a 'gen3'.supposedly it has less features to cut cost/price, but that's just internet rumors I read on KTOG of one person's opinion.
My KSG has the new rounded front handguard also indicating it's current, but has 3 view slots on the mag tube instead of the 'gen2's' single slot.I can barely make it out, but I think I only see one witness slot on your mag tube. So with mine, it means they changed back to 3 slots.maybe that's the gen3 distinction? There was a time when I was searching high and low for one of the Mossberg bull pups but could never find one.
When the KSG came out I thought now here is an interesting design and started looking for one of those. I'm waiting to see if the prices go down now since we've had the whole run on guns and ammo shortages. Plus there were some reports of issues with the KSG. More folks who have them are reporting they work great so it seems the issues are working themselves out now that more are hitting the market.
My concern now is price. Good deals to be had don't get me wrong, just gotta find one is all. OP yours looks pretty sweet! Gents, I just received mine 2 weeks ago after being on the LE purchase program for over a year wait. I'm not sure if they call it a certain 'gen' but it was made this month. I got it in OD green and set it up with FDE magpul sights and AFG2.
For now, I have the factory sling installed, although I'm partial to Viking slings and will get one first chance. I'm guilty of being the guy who hasn't made a range trip yet, but I've spent some time messing around with it, trying to come up with a manual of arms and have found the following' racking the slide without the AFG installed, allows your hand to end up awfully close to the muzzle. I have surmised that in the heat of a fight, you could slide it forward enough to shoot yourself in the hand, so some kind of plug stop, vertical grip or afg is needed. Loading is unusual, but to be expected on such a different design. Not bad The controls are good to go, the safety seemed backwards at first for a shotgun cross bolt, but if youre a 1911 or AR shooter, it comes down to using your thumb as always so it's normal once you realize that.
You do have to rack it hard, as everything seems to happen in that last 1/4' inch, having a vertical grip or AFG solves that. I decided to always shoot out of the left tube first, as the switch to the right tube for the reload seems more gross motor for me, accomplished with a 'pinch' that is very positive and you get a distinct click.
If you put the tube selector in the middle, this is supposed to cut off both mags and allow you to load/unload the chamber manually. I found that if I put the selector in the middle and rack it hard, sometimes it knocks the selector slightly to one side or the other and then you get a shell from that tube. If you don't rack it back hard, it doesn't do that and allows the chamber access as expected.
I have run the tubes out manually numerous times without any jams or feed problems. I'm very excited to get this gun into service!
Don, you HAVE to take it out and put at least some rounds downrange just to get a feel for it and also grossly test reliability and dependibility before considering it your service shotgun. Dry racking is not the same as actual firing and working the action.
You will find that some KSGs are finicky with what ammo is fed through them, so try out ones you plan to load up for use. The KSG definitely need some sort of grip or panel on the bottom rail.first time out and emptied both mag tubes, my palm was hurtin' from the rail's teeth knawing at every shot. I did not use any shooting gloves to simulate real shooting situations in a home scenario. Be careful when looking for vertical grips as some have small mounting bases that will exert too much force in a small area leading to sheared rail teeth where grip is mounted. I was told by Keltec via email I have a 'gen2' model. Don't shoot the messenger hear ha.

I asked what GEN do I have and they told me what GEN it is by serial number. Believe what you want. The tubes on mine have the single slot view not the 3 slot view. It does not eject rounds on my wrist. I haven't had any issues with mine. Proper technique/training will make operating it smooth.
If you get a lemon (which can happen with the best of firearms) send it back. I got mine through the LEO program. Its been totally upgraded, with extended tube switch, side shell carrier, cheek cover, magpul vfg etc etc. Its a beast and I love it. With that being said Im a fan of my Rem 870 pump and its the only thing I would ever want on duty.
Im sure Keltec will keep improving this platform.since its born date on the planet its been upgraded time and time again. The shotshow and LEO T&E's keep this happening. LEO's really came down on the first ones that came out and all those issues were fixed. I'm sure more improved models will come out over time. Contact Keltec with your issues or questions.
